Greetings from American Legion Post 138!

A while back I wrote about the Fisher house. On February 18, 2016 Department of Arizona Auxiliary President Josie attended the ribbon cutting of the new Fisher House at the Tucson VAMC. The Fisher House is a beautiful home that allows families of Veterans that are hospitalized stay for no cost to the families. There are currently 63 Fisher Houses worldwide. The Fisher house Foundation also manages a grant program for scholarships for fallen or wounded military spouses and children as well as other military charities.

This year the Fisher House was Department of Arizona Auxiliary President Josie’s special project. Madam President wanted to “thank all of the Auxiliary members that attended, and most of all thank you all for the generous donations for my special project. Thanks to you, the American Legion Family will have the plaque placed on the house for the $1,000,000.00 donation”. Congratulations Madam President! That’s outstanding!

Another program within the American Legion Auxiliary is the Auxiliary Emergency fund or AEF. As department chairman this year I learned a lot about this program and what it does. Auxiliary members that have paid their dues for three consecutive years are eligible. This is grant programs that helps members financially that have been affected by weather related disasters. The funds help pay for food and shelter. This program also offers assistance to members that require schooling to better their employment situation. AEF was this year’s National President’s special project. There are many programs within the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary that are important to keep going and to spread the word about how many volunteers there are in this great organization. Madame President thank you, for the opportunity to serve as The Department of Arizona AEF chairman. For more information on these or any other programs within the American Legion and/or Auxiliary you might be interested in, please contact Bags or I, or go to www.alaforveterans.org
